Peplum: the mircle shirt

17 Jul

This shirt is no stranger to the fashion world, Peplum tops were first introduced in the 1940 as a way to glam up the traditional women’s suit. This was the age of a women’s first introduction into the workplace, and in true woman’s fashion they needed a killer wardrobe to match.
Fashion brought the Peplum back in the 80s where floral prints matched feminine accent and the trend was reborn.

Today in the modern 21 century the Peplum has once again made a comeback. This trend has made its way onto the runways and our closets just in time for spring/summer while the fashion world is still obsessing over vintage inspired chic 40s & 50s fashion.

The reason I call the peplum a miracle top is because this trend works great on everyone, all shapes and sizes, of all ages. It clenches the waist and flares at the hips to create a long hourglass figure. It instantly creates curves in all the right places and hides any imperfections with the flair bottom. Heres some tips on how to wear this trend.

Peplum tops
Pair with pencil skirts or straight leg pants. Stay away from anything with a flare bottom such as A line skirts or in pants anything larger than a boot cut hem. (Using these will make u appear wider on the bottom instead of the hourglass figure we are going for.)

Another miracle dress that looks great
On everyone. Have fun choosing patterns and colors, neons are totally in this season. Peplum dresses also make for the perfect LBD (little black dress) since its so versatile. Just remember the fit is important the peplum should sit on your waist just above your hips and the clench at or just below your belly button.

Bare midriff

16 Jul

20130716-134805.jpg
The bare middrift is back in a big way this spring/summer. But the key to this trend is moderation. If your bearing your tummy, dress modestly everywhere else. Let your bold move be the focus of this look. Pair with longer hem lines, like a long flowy skirt or high wasted paints and shorts. Boat neck or crew neck style tops work best. Also this trend calls for you to bare your midriff not your belly button ladies. Stick to cutoffs that sit above your belly button for a modern look. To afraid to bare it all? Dont worry there are plenty of fashion trends this spring/summer for the sophisticated trend setter.

Hope this quick tip helped. Send me pictures of your bare midriff outfits and you may be featured on the next fashion on the streets. Vixenmakeup@gmail.com

Must have trends you can’t live with out this spring- STRIPES!

12 May

Bold stripes and railroad prints are a big staple this season. When wearing this trend remember horizontal stripes stretch out your shape and will make you appear wider and shorter. Vertical strips on the other hand make your shape appear long and Lean; prints in a wider stripe appear bolder than a demure small stripe. Wear this trend in skirts, pants, shirts, blazers, bags, and accessories, anything really. Here’s some ideas to pulling off this trend without looking like a jail-bird:

The Skinny Leg Pant: They’re slimming, they’re elongating, they’re punk and pretty all wrapped into one cute pair of pants. Always wear pants in a vertical stripe, this will, again, make you look longer than when wearing horizontal stripes. When wearing a wider stripe like the pants pictured, stick to solid colors for the rest of the outfit. But when using a thinner stripe all bets are off. Thin stripes are so demure you can basically wear it as a neutral. Try using it with other complementing patterns or floral which are really big this season.

Skirts: When wearing a pencil skirt the same rules apply as when wearing pants. Vertical stripes work best. But when wearing an A-Line skirt like the one pictured zig-zag or diagonal patterns are great. Keep the rest of your outfit in solid colors.

Tops: T-shirts, Tanks, Button downs, tube tops, and halters. There are so many tops that use stripes. Vertical, horizontal, diagonal or zig-zag, bold stripes or thin stripes there are so many to choose from. Lose fitting in neon colors are my favorite for tanks, while red and white stripes have a nautical theme. Play with colors and stripe patterns until you find what works for you. The top pictured is actually a body suit which works great for pants that require a tucked in shirt.

Dresses: Stripe widths and patterns depend on your body type in dresses.
Boyish: If you’re tall and narrow try using a combination of different stripes to create instant curves
Busty: If your bigger on top, try a dress with thin stripes or dresses that have a solid color on top and  strips on the   bottom to draw the eyes away from the chest area.
Curvy: Zig-zag or diagonal stripes flawlessly flatter an hourglass figure.
Pear Shaped: Horizontal stripes on top and verticals on the bottom are a great body-balancer and create curves in the right places.

Blazers and Jackets: Can be used in any stripe pattern or color. Make your blazer or jacket stick out as your statement piece by pairing it with solid colors. Go for bright colors for a summer look. Pair with colored or neon jeans and a white t-shirt for a casual chic look. Also goes great with leather pants or shorts for an edgy look.

Accessories and Bags: Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or zig-zag stripes work great on all bags and accessories in any color. However, when wearing on bags, hats, or scarfs make this the only big statement piece. While stripes are great to play with, wearing more than one piece at a time can be an over load.

Shoes: Color is key when using stripes on shoes. I love a navy blue and white stripe like the shoes pictured for a cute nautical look. Try mixing stripes with solid colors for a trendy stand out shoe.

Coloring: Stripes work great when paired with another great trend this season like Black & White, but colors work great for this look as well. Neon colors which are so hot this spring/summer, pastels like baby pink and blue are cute too, and metallic colors in gold, silver, and bronze all work great with this trend!

Style on the Go. Travel Chic.

7 May

jennyThis is Jenny. Stylish Jenny was found in  Atlanta Georgia’s airport on her way to visit family and friends.

“Traveling can be tough, and you want to be as comfortable as possible but still look cute when your friends pick you up at your destination” says Jenny.

She does exactly that with this travel chic outfit. Comfort meets style, Jenny’s outfit in spring colors make her stand her out in a crowd. She wears a long maxi skirt in a bright coral color. A white t-shirt keeps this look casual with added comfort. Light colored Jean crop jacket keeps Jenny warm if she gets cold. Matching coral scarf takes the place of a necklace and also get double use as a blanket or pillow on the plane. She wears flat gold sandals to make for easy walking through the busy airport. Jenny changes her color palette a bit  by wearing a mint green boho shoulder bag. (Great choice Jenny.) Mixing colors are great when they complement each other. Jenny stays in the pastel color wheel. Accessories can make or break an outfit. She keeps it casual by using a double layered pearl  bracelet and Ring.

Want an outfit just like jenny’s for your next travel day, or just a casual Sunday stroll? Here’s some links to buying essential pieces to completing this look.

Tricks to bigger lips

4 May

Did you ever wish you had bolder pouter lips but to afraid to turn to surgical enhancements? Here’s the trick to getting the look with out the pain to your face or to your wallet.

Tools you will need for this look:
~clear lip gloss
~nude lip liner
~your favorite lipstick color
Try a bold RED lip
*Not sure if red is right for you. Learn how to wear the right red with April
~A lip brush (I suggest the MAC 318 brush)
~Lip Plumping gloss

Now let’s get started. So we’re all familiar with the queen of the extended lip, Miss Pamela Anderson, but long gone are the bay watch days of huge hair meets fake boobs and frozen botoxed facial features. Nowadays we wants a more natural look to our face and bodies. This simple lip trick will enhance your lips with out a needle.

First, we always want to Prep and Prime our lips before we try any lip tricks. Taking care of your lips is so important, chapped and cracked lips are not pretty.
Exfoliate your lips with a soft lip scrub that contains vitamin A or E once or twice a week, this will keep your lips stay kissably soft.
(I love using Lip Scruff from the body shop $12.50, the mint flavor is so yummy)
Next Prime Your Lips. Using a primer helps your lipstick stay put and prevents lip color from bleeding.
( I like to use VS Pro Pout Fx Lip Primer and Definer. $12)

Now it’s time to Fill Your Entire Lip with a Clear Gloss. Choosing the right gloss is not such an easy task. There are so many glosses on the market from different companies that it may be hard to choose just one. If you’re a Makeup Guru like myself I bet your makeup kits are filled with glosses from different labels that contain various textures, finishes, glitters, flavors and such. But for the everyday person who is not so much into makeup as a competitive sport but as a mere spectator, a walk down the cosmetics aisle can be very confusing. For this exercise we are using a clear lip gloss so it will be a little easier. You should choose a gloss that is smooth in texture without being overly sticky. Also stay away from glosses that are to oily this will make your lipstick smudge and wear off easily.
(Two great clear lip glosses I suggest are MAC Clear Lipglass $15, Nyx Mega Shine Lipgloss in Clear $5.50)
Here comes the fun part take your Nude Lip Pencil and Line your Lips. Next slowly extend the line by creating an overlap over the last line on your top lip. First with one side then the other. Avoid lining the entire lip with one foul swipe. Take your time with this step. It’s like using eyeliner, you want to make sure your lines are completely even. Repeat overlapping the previous line until you have reached your desired dream lip shape. But remember to not overly embellish. I suggest drawing only one or two lines above your natural lip shape to create a natural look.
(Any Nude lip pencil will do but I like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Wallflower $19 and NYX Retractable Lip liner in Natural $4.50)
By now you should be looking in the mirror and saying to yourself, Angie eat your heart out, but if you’re not, don’t freak. Wipe the canvas clean and start all over again. Did Micheal Angelo paint the sixth chapel in a day? No way! As so, the art of makeup takes practice. So take a facial wipe and scroll up to the top of this page and let’s get to work.

Grab your Lipstick and Using your Lip Brush swipe a good amount of color on to your brush. (Is anyone using red? I hope you are.) Swipe the color across your entire lip including the extended part very carefully. Press your lips together slightly. This will blend all of the layers together.

Lastly Apply a Small Amount of Lip Plumping Gloss to the middle of the upper and lower lips and press your lips together one last time and we’re done.
( I absolutely love Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Plumping Treatment, it has a little bit of a kick, but who hasn’t bitten into a chili or two *wink*)

Now we have an eat your heart out pout that even Pamie would be jealous of. Keep the rest your makeup simple let the lips be the focus on this look. Be careful when drinking from a glass, use a straw instead it makes for less reapplys.
